What’s new about upcoming Microsoft Exchange Server 2016?

Have a look at the First look blog about the upcoming Exchange Server 2016 published at Exchange team blog – it talks about Microsoft Exchange Server 2016 & Ignite conference… Interestingly it also points that you’ll be able to watch recordings of all sessions—including the Meet Exchange Server 2016 overview and all the Exchange sessions—on the Web within 48 hours after they happen. Migration: Exchange Public folders and its future

Public Folders are used in earlier versions of Microsoft Exchange Server to store free/busy data and files. From Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, free/busy data is no longer stored in public folders. It’s recommend that you do not store files in public folders in Exchange 2007. Instead, consider using Microsoft Office SharePoint, or Windows SharePoint Services. Public folders are included and supported in Exchange 2007 and 2010. However, future releases of Microsoft Exchange might not include public folders. You can visit http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2006/02/20/419994.aspx. Also, you can refer MS Exchange team blog have posted the updated public folder guidance for versions of Exchange past Exchange 2007.

So, what are my options?

If you’re building something new, you should look at the requirements and building on the SharePoint Technologies platform:

+ Starting with Exchange 2007, we recommend that applications use the Availability service to provide free/busy data for Exchange mailbox users. Windows SharePoint Services replaces the file sharing functionality that public folders provide. You must redesign applications that use public folders to use Exchange Web Services.
+ Also consider redesigning custom applications as early as possible as future versions of Microsoft Exchange may not contain public folders.
+ In addition to that you can refer the wonderful blogpost by Joel.

Download fix : Issue with Message size in Outlook 2010 beta

With respect to my previous blog post regarding the message size increase of some e-mails sent from the Microsoft Outlook 2010 Beta, now you got fix from Outlook Product Group blog. The Office team has been hard at work building a fix for this issue, which is available immediately. If you are using the Office 2010 Beta, please take a moment to download this important fix.

Download Outlook 2010 Beta fix for 32-bit Office 2010

Download Outlook 2010 Beta fix for 64-bit Office 2010

What this fix will do? This fix prevents future messages from consuming unnecessary space, but doesn’t resize existing messages. If you reply or forward an existing message that is affected by this bug, it remains enlarged.

In the blog post, it’s nice to hear about the figures regarding the Outlook 2010 beta download/usage – “…although Office 2010 is in Beta and is not final, we are both excited and humbled by the fact that more than 2.5 million people have downloaded and used the Beta. We want to make sure you have a great experience with Office 2010…”

Bravo, way to go!!

Fixed : Issue with Message size in Outlook 2010

Earlier one of my customer reported when he created a simple HTML e-mail using Outlook 2010 beta. It contained a hyperlink and some text with bullet lists, but the size of the message is quite big. He tried with Outlook 2007, the message size was relatively small. It’s researched by Outlook 2010 product team and yesterday we got the updated detailed blog post regarding this, stating it’s fixed in latest Outlook 2010 builds.

Way to go!! Millions Switch to Exchange and SharePoint from Notes

I was reading couple of relevant documents, i noticed this blog post “Millions Switch to Exchange and SharePoint from Notes”. It talks about millions of users switched to Exchange Server and SharePoint from Notes – Really it was amazing to hear. I noticed that, “…In our last fiscal year (July 2008 – June 2009), more than 4.7 million people began the switch to Exchange and SharePoint from Notes.  In today’s economic climate, this is strong testimony to the cost-savings and efficiency gains that companies can get by moving off Notes.  Customers are recognizing that investment, even in tough times, can make them stronger for the long haul….”

Wow, way to go!!
