How to install the latest applicable updates for Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010?


The above query is a common one that we receive from our customers. Have a look at our support KB regarding this (specific to US English version only) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2625547 . This article provides a comprehensive list of the most recent hotfix updates and service packs for Microsoft Outlook. Some Outlook features are dependent on Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office components. Therefore, you should also install the latest updates for the Word and Office core components.

The above article is applicable to Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010. Also, the above article will be updated to reference new updates as they are released.

Microsoft Office 2010 SP1 release:

Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) provides the latest updates for Office 2010. This service pack includes two main categories of fixes:

  • Previously unreleased fixes that were made specifically for this service pack. In addition to general product fixes, these fixes include improvements in stability, performance, and in security.
  • All the public updates that were released through June 2011, and all the cumulative updates that were released through April 2011

How to obtain? You can obtain the service pack and install via two methods:

1) Using Microsoft Update
2) Download it manually (32-bit/64-bit):

We are pleased to declare that Visual Studio (VS) 2010 Service Pack 1 Beta and the .NET Framework 4 KB2162169 Beta will be supported as a “go live” release. This means that this software has met high standards of quality for a pre-release, and we are licensing it for developing and deploying production applications.

VS2010 SP1 Beta and the .NET Framework 4 KB2162169 Beta are licensed for use through June 30, 2011 at which point you’ll need to upgrade to the final release to continue using the product.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS10-024 – Security Update


This is regarding the “Microsoft Security Bulletin MS10-024” – Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Exchange and Windows SMTP Service Could Allow Denial of Service (981832). As we know, security related changes for Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 ship as Update rollups following the cumulative servicing model.

Per MS Exchange Product Group blog post, this security update resolves one publicly disclosed vulnerability and one privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Exchange and Windows SMTP Service.

  • Security Update for Exchange 2000 Server (KB976703)
  • Security Update for Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (KB976702)
  • Update Rollup 10 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB981407)
  • Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 2 (KB981383)
  • Update Rollup 3 for Exchange Server 2010 (KB981401)

Recommendation. Based on Security Bulletin, the majority of customers have automatic updating enabled and will not need to take any action because this security update will be downloaded and installed automatically. Customers who have not enabled automatic updating need to check for updates and install this update manually.

Update: Rollup 9 for Exchange Server 2007 SP1


On 7/17/2009, Microsoft released Update Rollup 9 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1. This update Rollup 9 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) resolves issues that were found in Exchange Server 2007 SP1 since the software was released. This update rollup is highly recommended for all Exchange Server 2007 SP1 customers.

This update rollup does not apply to Exchange Server 2007 Release To Manufacturing (RTM). For a list of update rollups applicable to Exchange Server 2007 RTM, refer to the section Update rollups for Exchange Server 2007 RTM in the Knowledge Base article KB937052.

This is a cumulative update rollup and replaces the following:

  • KB945684 Update Rollup 1 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (KB945684)
