Get-UserPhoto cmdlet may throw UserPhotoNotFoundException

Based on my last Get-userphoto blogpost, if you run the Exchange Powershell then you may get the following error:

Please note that you will get UserPhotoNotFoundException when you call Get-UserPhoto cmdlet call. It’s an expected behavior – as the given user photo is not set or no photo stored; validate in ECP or Admin Center whether the given user photo is set.

Hope this helps.

Microsoft Office 365–Using Exchange PowerShell to get Users photo from Microsoft Office 365

You can use the Get-UserPhoto cmdlet to view information about the user photos feature that allows users to associate a picture with their account. User photos appear in on-premises and cloud-based client applications, such as Microsoft Outlook Web App (OWA), Lync, Skype for Business, and SharePoint.

Please note that,

– This cmdlet is available in Exchange Online & Exchange Server 2016.
– The user photos feature allows users to associate a picture with their account.
– User photos are stored in the user’s Active Directory account and in the root directory of the user’s Exchange mailbox.
– The user photo feature must be set for a user before you can run the Get-UserPhoto cmdlet to view information about the user’s photo. Otherwise, you get an error message saying the user photo doesn’t exist for the specified users.
– Administrators use the Set-UserPhoto cmdlet or the Exchange admin center (EAC) to configure user photos. Alternately the users can upload, preview, and save a user photo to their account by using the Outlook on the web Options page.

So let we play with this cmdlet:

PS C:WINDOWSsystem32> Get-UserPhoto “deva@xxx.onmicrosoft.com”

RunspaceId  : 7adbbe2f-e5eb-4156-b8ed-2b0d5e9140fb
Identity    : deva
PictureData : {255, 216, 255, 224…}
Thumbprint  : -2069673794
IsValid     : True
ObjectState : New

It gets you the User photo info.

Let me tweak it a bit – as the requirement is to get all the user photo from Office 365.

PS C:WINDOWSsystem32> get-mailbox | % {Get-UserPhoto $_.identity} | % {Set-Content -path “d:export$($_.identity).jpg
” -value $_.picturedata -Encoding byte}

Once the above powershell works, then let me look at the path that we set it above. The folder path will contain the users photo from Office 365 user’s Exchange mailbox/AD.

Hope this helps.

KIN : Microsoft Unveils next generation social Windows Phone

I want to share information regarding KIN, a new next generation Social Windows Phone released by Microsoft Corp. on April 12 2009 (click here to watch “Microsoft unveils Kin” – Silverlight Presentation).

It’s designed specifically for people who are actively navigating their social lives. Brought to life through partnerships with Verizon Wireless, Vodafone and Sharp Corporation, KIN is designed to be the ultimate social experience that blends the phone, online services and the PC with breakthrough new experiences called the Loop, Spot and Studio.

With KIN, social networking is built into the fabric of the phone. KIN has a fun, simple interface, which is designed to help people publish the magazine of their life by making the people and stuff they love the focus rather than menus and icons. The unique hardware design was developed in partnership with Sharp to create a new kind of social phone.

KIN Models?

There are two models called KIN ONE and KIN TWO.

New features of KIN?

  • KIN ONE & TWO: Both phones feature a touch screen and slide-out keyboard.
  • KIN ONE is small and compact, making it a perfect fit for a pocket and to operate with one hand.
  • KIN TWO has a larger screen and keyboard, in addition to more memory, a higher resolution camera, and the ability to record high-definition video.
  • KIN CAMERA: The 5 and 8 megapixel cameras in ONE and TWO, respectively, are designed for use in low light with image stabilization and a bright LumiLED flash.

New experiences of KIN?

  • KIN Loop: Home screen of the phone. It always up to date and always on, showing all the things happening in someone’s social world. KIN automatically brings together feeds from leading Microsoft and third-party services such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter all in one place, making it easier to stay connected.
  • KIN Spot: A new way for people to share what’s going on in their world. Videos, photos, text messages, Web pages, location and status updates are shared by simply dragging them to a single place on the phone.
  • KIN Studio: It’s your phone online. Almost everything created on the phone is available in the cloud from any Web browser. You can automatically backs up texts, call history, photos, videos, contact and many more you can do.

What’s special with KIN?

  • KIN will be the first Windows Phone to feature a Zune experience — including music, video, FM radio and podcast playback.
  • It combines Sharp’s cutting-edge LCD and mobile device technology and integration with Microsoft’s cloud computing technology, KIN represents an innovative new mobile experience.

KIN

KIN will be exclusively available from Verizon Wireless in the U.S. beginning in May and from Vodafone this autumn in Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.
